Condom-ents
There is apparantly a debate occurring in Congress as to whether or not condom packaging should contain a warning that they do not prevent the spread of the STD known as HPV or the Human Papillomavirus. This is widely believed to be the most common STD. It causes genital and anal warts in both sexes and can lead to cervical cancer in women. According to the Health Department, somewhere around 5.5 million people are believed to be infected.
Apparantly condoms do not protect against this particular STD. The astoundingly insulting argument given by those opposed to the warning, is that it will undermine public confidence in condoms and lead to people not using them at all.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I can't think of anything that would undermine one's confidence in condoms more than the discovery of an anal wart. But that's just one gal's opinion.
